The French Medical Institute for Mothers and Children (FMIC) celebrated first birthday of the triplets safely born and mollycoddled at FMIC’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

On June 27, 2018 premature triplets were born at FMIC. The babies weighed 1.3 kg, 1.2 kg and 0.96 kg respectively contrary to the normal standard of 2.5 Kg for new-borns. The obstetrics and Gynaecology department carefully handled the case given the fact that the babies were too small to be carried- as Agnes Simon, an expert French midwife recalled while jubilantly speaking on the occasion of the first birthday celebration. When the babies were transferred to Afghanistan’s first ever Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in FMIC, they were so tiny and their parents were constantly praying for their health, mentioned Dr. Umaiad Faizi, Head of NICU at FMIC. Dr. Faizi added that, “FMIC’s NICU is the last resort for babies from across the country born with critical condition and we take pride in successfully handling numerous cases since the establishment of the 14- bedded NICU in 2016”.

Mr. Mustafa, the happy father of the triplets said, “We are very happy that FMIC neonatal healthcare professionals and the entire team handled our babies so professionally and they are now safe and healthy celebrating their birthday”. Mr. and Mrs. Mustafa along with some of their family members merrily attended the birthday celebration at FMIC and termed it a historical event in their lives. Mustafa also mentioned that after spending his happiest days of life at FMIC, his belief in FMIC has become even stronger.

The birthday party was attended by senior management team of FMIC, doctors, nurses and support staff. The CEO Dr. Nayamat Shah presented gifts to the babies on behalf of FMIC and finally all the participants joined cake cutting ceremony amidst cheers and birthday wishes for the babies.  At the end, Dr. Abdul Bashir Sakhizada FMIC Administrator HR and Admin, thanked all the participants specially the babies and their family for making it a memorable day in the history of FMIC.
