The French Medical Institute for Children (FMIC) was founded in 2006 as a public-private partnership among the Governments of Afghanistan and France, La Chaine de L’Espoir/Enfants Afghans - a French NGO and the Aga Khan Development Network through the Aga Khan University. FMIC has risen to the challenge of charting a course towards sustainable health solutions for Afghanistan.  

FMIC began its Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) Residency Programme in 2012 to address the need for specialists training in the country. In November 2013, a dedicated building for the PGME programme, equipped with latest teaching and learning facilities was inaugurated.

The PGME Programme at FMIC is accredited by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and planned and being implemented with active support from the PGME Programme of the Aga Khan University (AKU), Pakistan.

FMIC is pleased to announce the induction of residents for 2016. Applications are invited from Afghan physicians for the following residency programmes:

Paediatric Surgery             (5 Year)   2 positions
Paediatric Medicine           (4 Year)   2 positions
Anaesthesiology                (4 Year)   2 positions
Paediatric Cardiolog          (4 Year)   2 positions
Paediatric Orthopaedic      (4 Year)   2 positions
Radiology                           (4 Year)  2 positions
Pathology                           (4 Year)  2 positions​​

The PGME programme offers an excellent training environment with close faculty supervision. To complement the training, residents will have access to Continuing Medical Education Seminars, guest lectures by eminent scholars, health sciences library, skills lab and good audio visual and IT facilities. Beside rotation to teaching hospitals in Kabul, residents will have rotations to AKU Hospital in Karachi. They will also benefit from other related trainings being offered by AKU.

Requirements

​T​he training programme​s are open to all academically qualified Afghan physicians of either gender, regardless of religion, race, creed, color or domicile. FMIC is an equal employment opportunity and affirmative action employer. Women are strongly encouraged to apply.  

The potential candidate must have:

MD Diploma or equivalent degree from MoPH recognized institution
Must have passed the MoPH Entrance Exam for PGME
Must pass FMIC Entrance Test and go through the interview process​​​​​

Entrance Test

The Entrance Test brings uniformity in the system and is useful for short-listing appropriate candidates. The aim of the Entrance Test is to test medical knowledge of candidates at graduate level and English knowledge. The Entrance Test will be in English language, comprising of Multiple Choice Questions in basic health sciences, respective discipline (Medicine and Surgery), and public health and on English language. 

The date for the Entrance Test will be announced later.​

The short listed candidates in the Entrance Test will be invited to appear in the interview. The aim is to assess attributes of the candidate other than medical knowledge, that is, professionalism, ethics, analytic skills, interpersonal and communication skills.

Terms and stipend

The appointment of selected residents will be for one year, which is renewable on annual basis subject to satisfactory performance during the preceding year. All selected candidates are required to follow FMIC Residency Policies which are in line with the labor laws of Afghanistan and also as per the rules and regulations of MoPH and AKU. Residents will receive a reasonable stipend during their training period. No other allowances will be paid, however all training related expenses will be borne by FMIC.

Interested candidates should contact FMIC HR Department and do the needful as under:

Receive application form. Those who are living in other provinces, the electronic copy will be sent to their email addresses on request, but there is need for physical submission of Application Form with required documents. 
Fill the Application Form, complete all requirements mentioned therein and submit to FMIC – HR Department.

Incomplete applications or received after due date will not be considered. ​​

Only those candidates will be called for FMIC Entrance Test which successfully pass the MoPH Entrance Exam and submit their complete application forms with required documents to FMIC on time.

About FMIC

It is t​he first ISO certified hospital in Afghanistan, aiming to provide compassionate, accessible, cost-effective, high quality care services to the population of Afghanistan. Currently the hospital provides 94-bedded inpatient care for Children and adults, including 16 beds for pediatric intensive care, 17 bed for adult cardiac services, four operation theatres, a department of radiology which includes CT-Scan and MRI capabilities, a state-of-the-art laboratory, a 24 hour pharmacy service and outpatient services for the adult population in medical and surgical specialties. FMIC has also started new services for adult care such as adult Cardiac Care and will initiate 66 new beds for maternal and neonatal care in 2016, which will contribute in reducing maternal and infant mortality in Afghanistan. FMIC also runs a Postgraduate Medical Education and is now working towards expansion of its health services towards establishing a comprehensive 400 bed Academic Medical Complex in Kabul, which will serve not only the Afghan population but Central Asia as well, as a medical Centre of excellence.
