Day Care Centre Inaugurated

June 5, 2014

Kabul, Sunday, June 1, 2014:  A new day care centre was inaugurated at the French Medical Institute for Children today. General Director and Chief Executive Officer Mr Aziz Ahmed Jan and Dr Abdullah Fahim presided over the inauguration which coincided with the International Children’s Day celebrations.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Aziz Jan said, “The number of female staff members at FMIC is increasing rapidly and out of the current strength of nearly six hundred employees, one hundred are women.” The male to female ratio at FMIC is 4:1 which is considerably higher than the Afghan national average.

Most of the women working at FMIC are mothers who have small children therefore the establishment of the Day Care Centre was necessary to improve the performance of these young staff members so that they could work for FMIC with more dedication.

The Centre has been established with the help of the Canadian Government. Dr Abdullah Fahim said that a day care centre was a requirement for all professional organizations in Afghanistan.

Ms Fakhria Younas, Chair, FMIC Women’s Group and Head of Department of Pharmacy, on the occasion said the Centre had the capacity to house 10 to 15 children, between the ages of four months to six years. The Centre is equipped with a play area, a sleeping area, washroom and a kitchen.

The Day Care Centre provides a protective environment and is located close to the office of the new Postgraduate Medical Education block on Expanded Medical Complex land.
