Inauguration of Vision and Dental Care Clinic at FMIC ​​​​

High ranking officials visit the Dental and Vision Clinic during inauguration ceremony

The inauguration of the Vision and Dental Care Clinic at the French Medical Institute for Mothers and Children (FMIC) took place on Saturday, November 8, 2014. His Excellency Dr Abdullah Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer of the Government of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan was the chief guest.

During his address, His Excellency Dr Abdullah appreciated the services offered by FMIC and said that the Government of Afghanistan will continue to support FMIC in future as it is one of the best tertiary care facilities in Afghanistan. The Clinic is staffed by internationally trained doctors and technicians while the equipment is all state-of-art. 

For the first time in Afghanistan, patients will be able to avail comprehensive ophthalmology services inclusive of cataract surgeries and the administration of the avastin injection used to slow down the degeneration of the eye. It is expected that in the next 15 years the consulting clinics will get around 200,000 visits,  while 32,000 day surgeries and 66,000 procedures will be conducted at the clinic.

The dental clinic will provide services such as diagnostics, cosmetic and routine procedures using some of the latest equipment found in dentistry. It is expected that in the next 15 years doctors at the clinic will conduct 49,000 dental procedures and that there will be 47,000 clinic visits.

The inauguration ceremony was also attended by Her Excellency Dr Suraya Dalil, Acting Minister of Public Health, Government of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan; His Excellency Mr Jean-Michel Marlaud, French Ambassador to Afghanistan; Her Excellency Mrs Nurjehan Mawani Diplomatic Representative of the Aga Khan Development Network Afghanistan; Mr Lee Hilling, Chairman, Provisional Operating Committee of FMIC; Mr Salim Hahsam Vice President Health Services Aga Khan University; Dr Eric Cheysson, President of the French NGO La Chaine de L’Espoir; Mr Nadeem Mustafa Khan, Regional Chief Executive Officer, Aga Khan University Hospital and Mr Jocelyn Leveneur, AFD Country Director.
