​​​​​​Announcement: Postgraduate Medical Education Residency Programme Intake 2017​​​

​The French Medical Institute for Mothers and Children (FMIC) was founded in 2006 as a public-private partnership among the Governments of Afghanistan and France, La Chaine de L’Espoir - a French NGO and the Aga Khan Development Network through the Aga Khan University (AKU). FMIC has risen to the challenge of charting a course towards sustainable health solutions for Afghanistan. FMIC is first ISO certified hospital in Afghanistan and provides 160-bed inpatient care for children and adults, including 16 beds for paediatric intensive care, 17 bed adult cardiac care with a state of art cardiac catheterization laboratory, 52 new beds for maternal care and a 14 bed neonatal intensive care unit. FMIC is now working towards expansion of its health services towards establishing a comprehensive 400 bed Academic Medical Complex in Kabul. 

FMIC began its Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) Residency Programme in 2012 to address the need for specialists training in the country with a dedicated building for the PGME programme, equipped with latest teaching and learning facilities.

The PGME Programme at FMIC is accredited by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and planned and being implemented with active support from the PGME Programme of the Aga Khan University (AKU), Pakistan.

FMIC is pleased to announce the induction of residents for 2017. Applications are invited from Afghan physicians for the following residency programmes: ​

​The PGME Programme offers an excellent training environment with close faculty supervision. To complement the training, residents will have access to Continuing Medical Education Seminars, guest lectures by eminent scholars, health sciences library, skills lab and audio visual and IT facilities. Beside rotation to teaching hospitals in Kabul, residents will have rotations at AKU Hospital in Karachi for clinical training and also benefit from other related trainings being offered by AKU.

Requirements

The training programme is open to all academically qualified Afghan physicians of either gender, regardless of religion, race, creed, colour or domicile. FMIC is an equal employment opportunity and affirmative action employer. Women are strongly encouraged to apply.  

The potential candidate must have: 

MD Diploma or equivalent degree from MoPH recognized institution

Must have passed the MoPH Entrance Exam for PGME

Must pass FMIC Entrance Test and go through the interview process

Entrance Test: The Entrance Test brings uniformity in the system and is useful for short-listing appropriate candidates. The aim of the Entrance Test is to test medical knowledge of candidates at graduate level and English knowledge.

The Entrance Test will be in English language, comprising of Multiple Choice Questions in basic health sciences, respective discipline (Medicine and Surgery), and public health and on English language.  The date for the Entrance Test will be communicated later.

Interview: The short listed candidates in the Entrance Test will be invited to appear in the interview. Attributes of the candidate other than medical knowledge will be assessed such as professionalism, ethics, analytic skills, interpersonal and communication skills.

Terms and Stipend

The appointment of selected residents will be for one year, which is renewable on annual basis subject to satisfactory performance during the preceding year.

All selected candidates are required to follow FMIC Residency Policies which are in line with the labour laws of Afghanistan and also as per the rules and regulations of MoPH and AKU.

Residents will receive a reasonable stipend during the training period. No other allowances will be paid, however all training related expenses will be borne by FMIC.

Last date for submission of Application Forms is Thursday March 2, 2017 (12 Hot 1395).

Interested physicians should receive application form. Electronic copy will be sent to email addresses on request, or FMIC HR Department can be visited to receive the form. 

Fill the Application Form, complete all requirements mentioned therein and send the scanned form of application forms along with required documents in PDF format through mentioned emails.

Incomplete applications or received after due date will not be considered. 

Only those candidates will be called for FMIC Entrance Test who successfully pass the MoPH Entrance Exam and submit their complete application forms with required documents to FMIC on time.
