Sadruddin had been battling severe back deformity and pain for a year.
His condition had worsened to the point
where he was on the verge of
paraplegia, with minimal strength in his legs (Grade 2-3). Desperate for answers, his parents had sought help at multiple hospitals
in Kabul, but no one could address the complexity of his case. Finally, they
arrived at FMIC, where Sadruddin underwent thorough clinical, radiological, and
laboratory evaluations.
The Devastating Diagnosis
Spinal tuberculosis (TB), which had destroyed two thoracic vertebrae, resulting in severe kyphosis (a forward curvature of the spine) and spinal cord compression. Without immediate intervention, paralysis was inevitable.
A Pioneering Surgical Approach
Sadruddin underwent groundbreaking surgery. The first stage involved a thoracotomy to debride the infection and drain the affected area. Bone grafts, harvested from his own ribs, were carefully applied to the damaged vertebrae. Simultaneously, we performed a posterior arthrodesis with instrumentation, reinforcing his spine with screws and rods to correct the deformity and stabilize his spine. This complex procedure, rarely performed in Afghanistan, required immense precision and teamwork.
A Life Restored
The outcome was nothing short of miraculous. Sadruddin was rescued from the brink of paraplegia, and his pain and deformity were relieved. He and his parents were overjoyed and deeply grateful for the life-changing treatment at FMIC.At follow-up appointments, Sadruddin walked confidently on his own, pain-free and with no trace of the deformity that had once dominated his life. His transformation was remarkable, and his family's happiness was boundless. Sadruddin's remarkable recovery is an inspiring story of hope, resilience, and the power of modern medicine.
