Background

Since 2006, the French Medical Institute for Mothers and Children (FMIC) in Kabul, Afghanistan, has served patients from all 34 provinces. Operated through a public-private partnership among the Governments of Afghanistan and France, La Chaine de L'Espoir, and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), with management by the Aga Khan University, FMIC delivers world-class medical services and drives healthcare innovation in the region.

FMIC provides specialized consultations, advanced diagnostics (CT, MRI, radiology), surgeries, a 24/7 pharmacy, and state-of-the-art laboratory testing. It has recorded over 2.3 million patient visits and consultations, conducted 6.8 million laboratory tests, and performed 59,000 surgeries, including more than 5,700 pediatric and adult cardiac procedures. As Afghanistan's first ISO and Safe Care-certified hospital (recertified in 2024), FMIC has pioneered open-heart surgery, advanced diagnostics, and telemedicine, earning the IHF Award in 2021.

With a 176-bed capacity and a highly skilled Afghan medical team, FMIC is committed to advancing healthcare excellence. Through its Patient Welfare Support Programme, it has provided over $57.6 million in subsidized or free care, ensuring equitable access to high-quality treatment for vulnerable populations.

Job summary

Responsible for pre-purchase technical appraisal, installation, commissioning of equipment, caring preventive, and breakdown maintenance and inspection of Biomedical and electronic equipment's and systems, training end users on equipment to ensure safe and proper utilization as per the ISO, Safe Care and JCIA standards. Also, performs the daily inspection of assigned department to conduct meeting with the designated staff to improve coordination and to eliminate complain on time. Responsible for equipment inventory

Regular Responsibilities

Install, test, and commission medical equipment in all hospital departments.

Perform preventive and corrective maintenance and ensure proper functioning of devices.

Conduct calibration and safety testing using standard test tools to meet international and MoPH requirements.

Manage equipment inventory, documentation, service records, and maintenance schedules.

Prepare technical specifications, evaluate quotations, and support procurement processes.

Train biomedical staff and clinical users on correct equipment operation and basic troubleshooting.

Ensure electrical and patient safety compliance, participate in safety, quality, and IPC committees.

Coordinate with departments, suppliers, NGOs, and MoPH for technical and regulatory matters.

Provide reports, cost analyses, and recommendations for equipment upgrades or replacement.

Support emergency situations and ensure readiness of critical equipment.

Qualification and Requirements

Bachler in Biomedical/electronics /electrical Engineering from a recognized Institution.

Work experience:​​

2-3 years' experience in medical equipment is essential.

Knowledge, competencies and attributes:

An effective team player and contributes to team building.

Intermediate level knowledge of electronics.

Ability to think analytically and solve problems

Excellent oral and written communication skills in English

Ability to perform preventive maintenance inspection and handle breakdown on daily basis.

Skill in testing Biomedical/Electronics tools and equipment's.
