Executive Spotlight: Mr. Aziz Ahmad Jan, CEO of FMIC, Speaks to Conference Delegates

Kabul, Afghanistan, November 16, 2023 The French Medical Institute for Mothers and Children (FMIC) triumphantly hosted its 13th Annual International Scientific Conference and Quality Convention on Thursday, November 16, 2023, exploring the theme "Innovations in Healthcare: Accessibility, Quality and Research."

The day unfolded with the spiritual resonance of Quranic verses recited by Dr. Nijatullah Safi, setting a reflective tone for the event. Dr. Najmuddin Najm, Chairman of the FMIC Board, welcomed attendees and underscored the crucial role of quality in healthcare delivery. He emphasized the need for science and research to ensure quality health services, turning the conference into a key medical event in the region.

Dr. Haidar Omar, PGME Director, conveyed the message of His Excellency Dr. Qalandar Ebad, Acting Minister of Public Health, praising FMIC's commitment to hosting international-standard academic conferences. Dr. Omar highlighted the pride Afghan medical professionals feel in contributing to rich professional development opportunities without leaving their homeland. He acknowledged FMIC's pivotal role in providing hope and success to Afghanistan's healthcare landscape.

Dr. Eric Cheysson, President of La Chaîne de l'Espoir (CDE), emphasized the institution's evolution as a true laboratory of modern medicine, surgery, and anesthesiology since 2006. He celebrated FMIC as a unique asset, fostering international collaboration and enhancing healthcare quality for Afghan patients.

The keynote speech, delivered by Dr. Zulfiqar Bhutta, Founding Director and Distinguished University Professor at the Institute of Global Health and Development, AKU, showcased Afghanistan's commendable progress in child mortality trends. Dr. Bhutta emphasized the importance of increased domestic financing and support for outreach programs, particularly in community health work and high-quality maternal new-born care.

Aziz Ahmad Jan, CEO of FMIC, set the stage for a day of enriching discussions and knowledge exchange. The conference, a hybrid webinar, witnessed participation from over 350 international and national delegates, including researchers, scholars, doctors, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals. Dignitaries from government ministries, diplomatic communities, international development agencies, media, and civil society graced the occasion.

Dr. Mohammad Tareq Rahimi, Program Director of the Paediatric Surgery PGME Program at FMIC, shared ground-breaking insights into Sclerotherapy for the management of venous malformations before the parallel sessions commenced.​

The parallel sessions covered research topics in four areas, including: Public Health and Communicable Diseases, ,Reproductive, Maternal, New-born and Child Health and Nursing, Quality and Patient Safety and Non-Communicable Diseases. The conference concluded with closing remarks by Mr. Nadeem Mustafa Khan, Member of the FMIC Board, summarizing the day's insights and achievements.
