Dr Gulalai Wardak, a PGME-Obstetrics and Gynecology resident, present a presentation to local community women
On January 22, 2024, two sessions were organized
regarding gestational hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and antenatal care. The
first session was presented by Dr Gulalai Wardak, a PGME-Obstetrics and
Gynecology resident, and attended by 190 female participants from the Baraki
area. During the session, she covered areas such as the definition of diabetes,
gestational diabetes is, and the ways of controlling it. Types
of gestational diabetes, symptoms of gestational diabetes, symptoms of
gestational diabetes in the second trimester, causes of gestational diabetes,
treatment of gestational diabetes were also discussed. She also
discussed diet for pregnancy and managing blood sugar
for those who are exposed to gestational diabetes. Dr Wardak also covered important topics such as: the complications of gestational diabetes, high blood pressure in pregnancy, factors of high blood
pressure in pregnancy, and risk factors during high blood pressure in pregnancy.
The second session on “antenatal care" was presented by Mrs Nazia Barat, covering definitions of antenatal care, evaluating the physiological changes during pregnancy, distinguishing between presumptive, probable, and positive signs of pregnancy, objectives, and the schedule of visits for antenatal care.
Following the session, the screening team conducted a history and physical assessment. Some of the individuals were referred to FMIC for additional assessment and diagnosis.
