Women from
FMIC Adjacent Local Community benefited from a Frist Aid
Training on “Choking”
As part of the community engagement regular
activities, this time we have conducted a first aid training session
on “Choking” for neighboring community women on October 14, 2021.
The session presented by Mr Qahir Jawad ,Coordinator, NES to 33
participants came from the community.
Choking Is a
blockage of the upper airway by food or other objects, which prevents
a person from breathing effectively. Choking can cause a simple
coughing fit, but complete blockage of the airway may lead to death.
This is a true medical emergency that requires fast, appropriate
action by anyone available. Emergency medical teams may not arrive in
time to save a choking person's life therefore training is required
to everyone for fast and appropriate response.
The session focused on two maneuvers for upper
airway obstruction:
·
Abdominal thrust: We use this technique for one year
of age and older. (for pregnant and obese person we use chest thrust
instead of abdominal thrust)
·
5 back slaps and 5 chest thrust: we use this technique
for younger than 1 year of age.
These techniques are used until the obstructed object
is removed or patient become unresponsive.
