Background:
Since 2006, the French Medical Institute for Mothers and Children (FMIC) in Kabul, Afghanistan, has served patients from all 34 provinces. Operated through a public-private partnership among the Governments of Afghanistan and France, La Chaine de L'Espoir, and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), with management by the Aga Khan University, FMIC delivers world-class medical services and drives healthcare innovation in the region.
FMIC provides specialized consultations, advanced diagnostics (CT, MRI, radiology), surgeries, a 24/7 pharmacy, and state-of-the-art laboratory testing. It has recorded over 2.3 million patient visits and consultations, conducted 6.8 million laboratory tests, and performed 59,000 surgeries, including more than 5,700 paediatric and adult cardiac procedures. As Afghanistan's first ISO and SafeCare-certified hospital (recertified in 2024), FMIC has pioneered open-heart surgery, advanced diagnostics, and telemedicine, earning the IHF Award in 2021.
With a 176-bed capacity and a highly skilled Afghan medical team, FMIC is committed to advancing healthcare excellence. Through its Patient Welfare Support Programme, it has provided over $57.6 million in subsidized or free care, ensuring equitable access to high-quality treatment for vulnerable populations.
Job summary
Conduct comprehensive nutritional assessment for patients with various medical/surgical conditions. Educate patients and their families about nutrition and dietary modifications Assist in developing hospital-wide nutrition policies developed education materials and conduct workshops for staff and patient on nutrition related topics contribute to quality improvement initiative within the nutrition department.

Regular Responsibilities:
Assessing Nutritional Needs: evaluating patient dietary needs and nutritional needs through consultation and assessment
Developing Meal plans: creating personalized meals plan for patients align with health goals and nutritional requirement
Educating patient, attendees and FMIC staff providing information and guidance on healthy eating habits, nutrition basics and lifestyle change
Collaborating with healthcare providers working with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care and ensure that client receive comprehensive support
Public speaking and workshops leading workshop, seminar, or public presentation to raise awareness about nutrition
Documentation and reporting keeping detailed records of clients interaction, assessment and progressSpecialized guidance offering targeted advice for specific population such as children, pregnant mother, chronic illness diabetes, heart disease.
Regular reporting to Medical Director regarding clinical and managerial/administrative tasks.
Assist the Department to facilitate the development/adaptation of nutrition education training by preparation of Policies and Protocols.
Conduct critical monitoring of all aspects of nutrition activities and identify areas of concern.
Submit workable solutions for identified challenges in department
Any other task assigned by direct supervisor
Periodic Responsibilities:
Conduct CMEs out of FMIC for sharing knowledge and information
Participate in clinical forums and workshops
Participate in meetings
Qualification and Requirements.
Bachelor's degree in nutrition, Dietetics, Public health or related field.
Certification as Registered Dietitian or equivalent.
Work experience
1-2 years of experience in relevant field.
Knowledge and Competencies.
Ability to work under difficult working conditions
Ability to develop and implement effective nutrition programs.
Interpersonal skill and good communication skill in Dari, Pashto and English languages
Having good computer skill specially in MS Office programs
Having good leadership skill
Ability to develop others to maximum capacity for growth and incremental improvement
Able to manage conflict constructively to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
