Background:
Since 2006, the French Medical Institute for Mothers and Children (FMIC) in Kabul, Afghanistan, has served patients from all 34 provinces. Operated through a public-private partnership among the Governments of Afghanistan and France, La Chaine de L'Espoir, and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), with management by the Aga Khan University, FMIC delivers world-class medical services and drives healthcare innovation in the region.
FMIC provides specialized consultations, advanced diagnostics (CT, MRI, radiology), surgeries, a 24/7 pharmacy, and state-of-the-art laboratory testing. It has recorded over 2.3 million patient visits and consultations, conducted 6.8 million laboratory tests, and performed 59,000 surgeries, including more than 5,700 paediatric and adult cardiac procedures. As Afghanistan's first ISO and SafeCare-certified hospital (recertified in 2024), FMIC has pioneered open-heart surgery, advanced diagnostics, and telemedicine, earning the IHF Award in 2021.
With a 176-bed capacity and a highly skilled Afghan medical team, FMIC is committed to advancing healthcare excellence. Through its Patient Welfare Support Programme, it has provided over $57.6 million in subsidized or free care, ensuring equitable access to high-quality treatment for vulnerable populations.
Job summary
The Manager will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and delivering educational programs and courses related to critical care nursing. This role involves a combination of classroom teaching, clinical instruction/ supervision, curriculum development, and ongoing professional development.
Responsibilities.
The ideal candidate would be able to:
Regular Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver lectures, seminars, and workshops related to critical care nursing and competencies.
- Provide hands-on clinical instruction and guidance to nursing students in critical care settings.
- Collaborate with the department head and faculty members to design, implement, and update curriculum materials for critical care nursing programs.
- Conduct assessments and evaluations to measure student progress and program effectiveness.
- Ensure capacity building of junior instructors and clinical preceptors in critical care nursing.
- Familiar with advancements in critical care nursing and integrate relevant updates into the curriculum.
- Engage in research activities and contribute to scholarly publications in the field of critical care nursing.
- Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and other administrative duties as required.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages active participation and critical thinking.
- Ensure the quality of the program including; monitoring the program and preparing for external assessments
- Maintain filing systems of the program; including preparing and producing reports
Qualification and Requirements.
- A master's degree in nursing or a related field.
- A valid nursing license and relevant certifications in critical care nursing.
Work experience.
- Substantial experience in critical care nursing, with a minimum of two years of clinical practice.
Knowledge and Competencies.
- Previous teaching or instructional experience in a healthcare education setting is preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to continuing professional development and lifelong learning.
