Background ​

FMIC was established as an innovative four-way public-private partnership between the Governments of Afghanistan and France, La Chaine de l'Espoir “Chain of Hope", and AKDN. The Aga Khan University is managing this facility as part of AKDN initiative. FMIC is a 176-bed tertiary care hospital for adults, mothers and children, located in Kabul, Afghanistan; providing access to Afghans from all 34 provinces with exemplary healthcare services.  FMIC diagnostics offer high-end imaging and state-of-the-art laboratory services; meeting the emergent needs of the Afghan populace. FMIC offers subsidized care through its Patient Welfare Support Programme to patients with no wherewithal to afford the cost of services. Since April 2006, FMIC has disbursed over US$49.5 million in patient welfare support to over 70,4652 patients. FMIC serves over 300,000 patients annually.  Furthermore, FMIC has established a 40-bed Women's and Children's house to host ultra-poor patients and provide 100% free care including housing and transportation facilities.. ​

Job summary

Responsible for pre-purchase technical appraisal, installation, commissioning of equipment, caring preventive, and breakdown maintenance and inspection of medical equipment, train end user on equipment to ensure safe and proper utilization as per the ISO and JCIA standards. Also, performs the daily inspection of assigned department to conduct meeting with the designated staff to improve coordination and to eliminate complain on time. responsible for equipment inventory. ​

Responsibilities

Ensuring the safety of equipment used for diagnosis, treatment and monitoring.

Carrying out preventive, breakdown and corrective maintenance and inspection of the equipment as per the standard procedures defined by Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).

Installing new biomedical equipment by establishing, adjusting, calibrating, and testing performance.

Directing biomedical equipment operation by providing equipment operation demonstrations, instructing other healthcare staff in use and care of equipment, answering questions, providing information to the end users.

Evaluating proposed biomedical equipment by conducting tests and evaluations.

Improving biomedical equipment performance by studying machine-patient interaction, conferring with equipment users, developing modifications, collaborating with equipment manufacturers.

Maintaining biomedical equipment supplies including accessories, disposables and other item's inventory by checking stock, anticipating needs, placing and expediting orders, verifying receipt according the purchase order. Strong communication with purchasing and supply chain management to ensure equipment and other items are received accurate as per the PR.

Logging equipment database, commissioning and updating inventory list in EAM-10.

Performing daily inspection of medical equipment installed in the hospital.

Performing technical inspection of new purchased medical equipment as per P.O and giving reports.

Implementing of any work related to equipment management system is as per the ISO/JCIA related standards.

Preparing and presenting reports for health professionals and the public.

Conducting research to test and modify known theories and develop new theories.

Any other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.​

Qualification and Requirements

MS/BS/BE or B-Tech in Biomedical / Electronics / Electrical Engineering from any recognized technical college or University.

Work experience​

2-3 experience in the related field will be given preference but not essentials. ​

Knowledge and Competencies.

Basic knowledge in electronics, computer repairing, networking, human physiology and anatomy.

The ability to think analytically and solve problems.

An aptitude for science and mathematics.

The ability to visualize complex processes and equipment.

Good oral and written communication skills in English and local language/s.

Good interpersonal skills.

Synthesizing information to conduct research and develop new instruments, equipment and systems.

Good stress and anger management.

Good consultation and negotiation competencies.​
