Omid-story.jpgAhmad Omid (16 years) was born in Mazar-i-Sharif, the central town of Balkh province. Despite the contemporary challenges, he has big dreams for his future. This motivation helped him stand out and show his level best in grade 9 exams.

Omid's father is the only breadwinner in the family. He is a street vendor selling vegetables to feed and support the whole family. Things were going well for the family despite hardships however the family members noticed Omid losing weight with changing skin colour day by day.

One day Omid's father took him to a nearby clinic located in Mazar-i-Sharif. The Doctor diagnosed gastric ulcer and prescribed him some medicines. After some time, his family saw that Omid's condition got even worst; he became weak, felt fatigued, and had a rapid heartbeat. Omid's Aunt, was hopeful as she had heard some good stories about FMIC. Upon her advice, Omid was taken to Dr Noor Amin, one of the FMIC's cardiac surgeons, on June 5, 2022. An FMIC investigation revealed a large cardiac tumour located in the left atrium, which is called a myxoma.

Dr Noor Amin strongly advised to go for a surgery; otherwise, it could cause catastrophic complications such as stroke, heart failure, or even death. Omid was admitted in FMIC to undergo an open-heart surgery, which doctors performed with a Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) machine and a resting heart.

The myxoma was removed completely and intact without creating a fragment. Omid's operation was successful; he was hospitalized in the ICU for two days and then discharged.

For the last check-up, Omid and his father visited FMIC and expressed their gratitude to Dr Noor Amin and his team for these extraordinary efforts and the excellent services provided to them by FMIC. Also, Dr Noor Amin re-checked Omid's LV function, which was 55%, considered good for a young man.

Omid is resuming school with lots of excitement and hope after a painful yet successful journey for his treatment. Luckily his family did not have to pay anything for the treatment since the entire cost i.e., 0.4 million Afghanis was covered by La Chaine de l'Espoir.

"Thanks to the high-quality health care at FMIC and its partnership with La Chaine de l'Espoir, which is a beacon of hope for the people of Afghanistan in these challenging circumstances." said, Lal-Mohammad, Ahmad, Omid's father.
